Have you ever wondered which is the largest desert on Earth? Most people would immediately think of the Sahara Desert with its endless sand and scorching heat. But the geographical truth might surprise you!

​The Fact:

Actually, Antarctica is the largest desert in the world. Sunkar thoda ajeeb laga na? To chaliye jaante hain iske peeche ka scientific reason.

​What is the definition of a Desert?

Geographical perspective se dekhein toh registan (desert) ka matlab sirf ret ya garmi nahi hota. A region is classified as a desert if it receives very little precipitation (rain, snow, or mist).

​Technical terms mein: Agar kisi jagah par saal bhar mein 10 inches (250 mm) se kam baarish ya barf girti hai, toh use "Desert" kaha jata hai.

​Why Antarctica?

  1. ​Low Precipitation: Antarctica duniya ki sabse sukhi (driest) jagahon mein se ek hai. Wahan baarish lagbhag na ke barabar hoti hai.
  2. ​Cold Desert: Kyunki wahan temperature bahut kam hota hai, isliye ise 'Polar Desert' ya 'Cold Desert' kaha jata hai.
  3. ​Massive Size: Antarctica ka area lagbhag 14 million square kilometers hai, jo Sahara Desert se bhi kahin zyada bada hai!

​Conclusion:

Toh agli baar jab koi "registan" ka naam le, toh sirf Sahara nahi, Antarctica ko bhi yaad rakhiyega!
